iOS 5 and Apple iCloud Unveiled

iOS 5 and Apple iCloud Unveiled

June 8, 2011 San Francisco – Apple made two important announcements in its keynote presentation at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2011. First, it offered a sneak peek into the iOS 5 and the second was a detailed look into the Apple iCloud.

The  iOS5 will appear later in the year and offer 200 new features, as well as, 1500 new APIs (Application Programming Interface) , which will support the 3rd and 4th generations of the iPod touch;  iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4. A demonstration of the various features has left no doubt in the minds of experts that Apple has developed its best iOS till date. Some of the features that stand out include the Notifications Center, Twitter Integration, iMessage, Newsstand, Reminders, Reading Lists, Camera Shortcuts, and Over the Air updates.

Many of the features being offered by iOS 5 were already being offered by other mobile OS. But with the Apple iOS 5, the company aims to get rid of its late entrant tag.

The announcement of the Apple iCloud has taken file sharing and streaming to the next level. It brings to iOS devices, the benefit of wireless file sharing and streaming. It aims to remove user’s dependency on a personal computer, meaning a user can now download various media, apps, documents and sync media without using any USB cord. The idea behind iCloud services is to keep the devices in sync. With the launch of this service, software updates can now be delivered to users wirelessly.

The Apple iCloud promises a significant improvement on Apple’s previous service MobileMe, which never found any traction with the users.  The focus of both the iOS 5 and the iCloud is on easing the process of managing the various media on all Apple devices.

The seriousness with which Apple treats the iCloud service can be determined from the $ 1 billion data center that has been developed to act as a backbone for this service.
